I need a new tractor. Own 25+ acres,mow(lawn 1 acre-trails 1.5 miles). Lawn is mostly around house which sits in the woods,therefore have many trees to deal with.Also cut 6-10 cords of firewood /year. Add to this a 600 ft. driveway and to my best thinking I need not only a tractor,but a mowing machine.The problem is i don't want to spend the money to buy both.Have been thinking of a new holland td25d or a kubota 2710-2910.Both tractors get good marks, but would like feedback.Thanks,pat.

Pat, I also have to deal with lots of trees. While I do our mowing around the house with a ZTR mower, all of our other mowing (4-6 acres cleared woods with some trees, 1+ miles of trails)is done with the NH. A good part of the reason that I went with blue was because of the Super Steer option that lets me get between the trees easier than without this feature. This option also comes with what they call Sensitrac. This helps keep the tires from eating up your lawn on sharp turns. I've thanked myself many times for spending the extra $900 or so for this option. (Besides, your friends will be amazed.)I'd also like to throw in my 2 cents on sticking with a hyrdo for mowing.- I love it! After using a standard for 4-5 years and switching to this, I can't imagine going back. I couldn't think about stopping on a hill while mowing before. Now I think nothing of it! ....

I agree with Tom on sticking with hydro.
The SS (SuperSteer) is a great option if your mowing around trees and such . I would go for the TC33D w/SS. It gives you more horses. I recommend the MMM (Mid Mount Mower), it keeps you from having to continually look back while you're mowing. A few caster wheels make it easy to remove and replace when needed. ....

I sold my lawn tractor a couple of years ago and use only the JD 955. I have a combination of turf tires on the front and R4 on the rear. I maintain 2-3 acres of lawn.
Having bought and sold a smaller tractor I would suggest at least the 30+ hp range for the acreage you have.
I also moved from the gear in my small tractor to the hydro and would recommend it.
I have a quick change loader and remove it for mowing, but would also recommend the loader.
I have had two 3pt finish mowers and see no real advantage to the mid mount. With the hydro I find that what I don't get moving forward I can pick up in reverse. I also find that I can get under the low limbs on the trees by backing under.
With the ROPs bar you either need to trim all the trees limbs high or back under. ....
